BuildON
BuildON, supported by the LDA Opportunities Fund, promotes sustainable construction and raise awareness. The project provides SMEs with advice and support to increase resource efficiency and positive environmental impact through promoting enterprise, regional competitiveness and encourage businesses to jointly pilot resource efficient, waste minimising innovations through cross-sector and other industry coalitions.
BuildON is providing:
New sustainable skills training and coalition development to enable BME and women-led SMEs to participate in the development and implementation of innovations, particularly in the development of the Thames Gateway communities and the 2012 Olympics.
Opportunities for knowledge transfer among higher and further education institutions, larger and smaller companies across all the built environment sector through innovative networking and training opportunities (such as canal boat events that showcase the Olympics area and its sustainable focus, including the use of canals for freight transport).
We anticipate that it will:
Improve business and regional competitiveness via significant cost savings by reducing resource use, identification of new business and innovation opportunities.
Ensure that businesses not merely comply with environmental legislation particularly aimed at the construction sector but actively develop better ways to implement it.
Promote better understanding and working relationships among various sectors (public, voluntary, private – large and small) and among sub-sectors within the construction industry (architects, surveyors, landscape architects, residential and commercial sectors, etc.)
