As well as showcasing in several schools of Architect around the UK, DiverseCity has been on a global expedition these last few years with no slow down of momentum. Since it’s launch in London 2003, New Zealand, China, America, Greece and Luxembourg, to name a few countries have been hosts for DiverseCity.
The Global Snowball Tour is the most fitting of titles. The original concept stemmed from an idea of showcasing female architects that are, on a global scale, grossly under-represented in Architecture. Interests from ethnic minorities and students in Architect expanded the vision and it has “snow-balled” from there. Word of mouth spread and invites from all around the world from people wanting be involved in this project followed.
“DiverseCity promotes diversity of people in architecture. Each city adds 10 panels to the exhibition on what diversity means to them.”
Each panel has a personalised feel to them, allowing often-overlooked voices to have an audience. It is flowingly curated and the multiplicity of the participants both reflects their differences and similarities in Architect in a global community.
DiverseCity: Global Snowball will next be exhibiting for EcoDiversity at RIBA, Royal Institute of British Architects: 66 Portland Place, London W1B 1AD on Monday November 17th 2008. Doors open at 9 am.
